Fares freeze leaves Londoners in the cold
The price Londoners pay for public transport is too high. Shockingly, despite the Mayor’s well publicised ‘fares freeze’ those costs have been going up for anyone who depends on a travelcard. Further if you use Oyster or Contactless and pay a daily or weekly cap, those are set from the same travelcard pricing.
Londoners who live in Zone 4 and commute to the centre of London every day face paying £250 more a year from January for a travelcard. Unsurprisingly travelcard sales are declining as these increases are felt by Londoners.
I’ve detailed my research into this issue in more detail in an article for CityMetric and produced the graphic and table below to show the increases in travelcards for 2020.
